What Is a PRP Facial and Why Is It So Popular?

PRP Facial

A PRP facial, also known as a platelet-rich plasma facial, is one of the most powerful and natural anti-aging skin treatments available. By using the body’s own elements in a revolutionary skin rejuvenation treatment, a PRP facial delivers tighter, firmer, smoother, and younger-looking skin.

At Orchidia Medical Group, we’re proud to offer PRP facials to our patients. Because there are so many benefits that these special treatments give to our patients, it’s no surprise that our patients rave about their results.

A PRP facial can improve the texture and tone of skin, but that’s not all. These treatments can also diminish the appearance of skin flaws, fill out areas of the face like the cheeks, and more.

What Is a PRP Facial?

During this skin rejuvenation treatment, a patient’s own platelets are used as the main ingredient in the all-natural facial solution. Since the platelets are directly from the patient, there’s no chance of the body rejecting them or having an adverse reaction to them. This makes PRP facials a safe option, even for people with sensitive skin.

There are dormant stem cells in the skin that have the job of providing essential materials needed to heal and regrow skin after an injury occurs.

When a cut, scrape, or burn happens, the stem cells “awaken” and begin to repair the skin. You can see this natural “awakening” when you look at a scab that covers a healing injury and notice the yellow serum around it.

Thanks to today’s technological advances, science can now stimulate those dormant cells during a PRP facial without cuts, scrapes, or burns. When these cells are stimulated, there are at least eight different growth factors in the patient’s blood that get to work.

This stimulation grows fresh, new skin that looks younger, healthier, and more vibrant.

What Happens During a PRP Facial?

When it’s time for your PRP facial appointment, you’ll come to our office and we’ll make sure you’re comfortable. After we apply a topical anesthetic, we will draw a small amount of your blood to use for your PRP injections — about the amount that’s taken for a common lab blood draw.

We have a special centrifuge in our office that spins the blood at an extremely fast velocity. This fast speed separates the platelets from other components of the blood, including red blood cells. With all-natural methods, we prepare the platelets to be used in your PRP injections.

Next, we’ll use an advanced microneedling application to inject the platelet-rich plasma solution into your skin. This process is like “stamping” the plasma into the skin. After that, we’ll apply a collagen mask to increase the effectiveness of the PRP injections.

The average appointment for a PRP facial is about one-and-a-half hours. Optimal results appear in about one month. There’s little to no downtime required after a PRP facial, so you can go right back to your normal activities as soon as you leave our office.

Benefits of PRP Injections

The growth factors within the platelet-rich plasma work to rejuvenate the skin, but there are also numerous other benefits they provide. For instance, PRP facials can:

There are no medications required to maintain the benefits of PRP treatments. The growth factors build a new outer layer of skin on the face by promoting cell regeneration, and this is what produces a smooth, soft look on the skin.

The increased collagen production tightens facial skin, which works to improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Finally, new blood vessels form, which give the skin a beautiful and healthy glow. This facial bio-stimulation represents the most natural, advanced, and beneficial anti-aging treatment to date.

What Makes the Facial Plasma-Rich?

The average number of blood platelets a person has at any given time is anywhere from 150,000 to 450,000 platelets for every microliter of blood. Thanks to the unique centrifuge we use to spin and separate the platelets from the rest of the blood components, the concentration is much higher in the sample we use for the facial.

In fact, the concentration of platelets for facials typically ranges from 750,000 to 3,600,000 platelets per microliter. That’s five to eight times the average baseline concentration.

During PRP facials, the platelet-rich plasma forms a mesh that is used to support the growth factors and healing granules in your skin, launching the rejuvenation process.

Are You a Good Candidate for PRP Injections?

PRP injections as part of a skin rejuvenation regimen can be administered across the entire face or only in certain areas. Some popular areas where PRP facials are commonly applied include the lips, forehead, cheeks, chin, neck, and even the upper and lower eyelids.

Most people who are in good general health make excellent candidates for PRP skin rejuvenation treatments.

If you take blood thinners, have cancer, or have low platelet or blood cell counts, we have a wide variety of other skin rejuvenation treatments that produce marvelous results for our patients, so we will work with you to find your ideal treatment.
